The organisation

Sarphati Amsterdam brings together expertise from various organisations.  This is reflected in how our organisation is managed. Sarphati Amsterdam is a foundation with an Executive Board. This Board is supported by an Advisory Board and a Programme Board. The Executive Board is also accountable to a Supervisory Board.

Executive Board

The Executive Board comprises two directors; one appointed from the Municipality of Amsterdam and one appointed from the involved knowledge institutes (UvA, VU, Amsterdam UMC and HvA). Arnoud Verhoeff (right on the photo) represents the Municipality of Amsterdam and Jaap Seidell (left on the photo) represents the knowledge institutions.

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board monitors the policy of the Executive Board and the general course of business within Sarphati Amsterdam. The Supervisory Board is formed by:

Allard van der Beek (VUMC), Social Medicine department at VUMC (Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board)

Nynke van Dijk (HvA), decaan faculteit Gezondheid en faculteit Bewegen, Sport en Voeding (vice voorzitter Raad van Toezicht)

José Manshanden (GGD), Director of the Public Health Service of Amsterdam (GGD)

Anton Kunst (AMC), Head of Social Medicine department (Amsterdam UMC)

Frans Oort (UvA), Director of Research Institute of Child Development and Education

Guus Schreiber (VU), Dean of the Faculty of Science, Mathematics and Computer Sciences

Programme Board

The Programme Board is jointly responsible, with the Supervisory Board, for

developing the research programme and the annual plan. The following professionals from the field are involved:

Advisory Board

The Advisory Board provides strategic support to the Executive Board. The Advisory Board members advise the Executive Board on scientific, social and commercial developments. The strategic objectives are determined together with the Advisory Board.
